About Director NetworksOur networks bring together company directors in a unique setting that enables them to share their experiences, learn from each other and identify more ways to improve their company’s performance. Leading a successful and growing company is an all-consuming activity and as a result it is sometimes all too easy to lose sight of the ‘big picture’ which can lead to isolation. Stepping out from the day-to-day round of managing, and taking the time to reflect upon some fundamental, but all too neglected, longer term issues can be of lasting value.
How the Networks Work Our networks consist of a small group of CEOs who commit themselves to regular meetings over an initial period of 12 months. Meetings of the group take place for one full day each month (excluding holidays!) with presentations and facilitation provided by the network’s Chair. Past topics have included leadership, innovative thinking, personal effectiveness and business strategy. In between sessions members are offered one-to-one mentoring to follow-up what has been learned and to implement projects within their company. Networks offer busy CEOs peer group support, problem solving skills, the sharing of ideas and individual development. The benefits of the IOD’s networks include the opportunity for reflection, clarity about long term goals, addressing key business performance issues with other CEOs as critical but supportive friends, benchmarking and keeping up-to date with the latest management and leadership thinking. We have organised 13 successful networks in Central Scotland, the Highlands, Orkney & Shetland regions between 2001 and 2010.
