Coaching and Mentoring

What we do

The Scottish Director Development Centre supports directors and senior managers in their work to enhance performance, business achievement and success. Our Executive Coaching and Mentoring Service is one of the tools we provide to support you in your role.

Individuals may wish to:

  • Increase confidence
  • Set clear personal outcomes
  • Improve decision making
  • Reduce stress
  • Lift performance
  • Gain creativity
  • Increase credibility
  • Solve a specific business issue

Organisations may wish to:

  • Retain key people
  • Improve staff management skills
  • Reduce conflict
  • Support high flyers
  • Increase Director/senior manager commitment
  • Challenge traditional thinking

What we won't do

But there are some things we won’t give you.  You won’t get an inexperienced coach/mentor and you won’t get someone upon whom you become dependent in the longer term.

Our coaches and mentors are all well respected business people with a wide experience and knowledge across the private and public sectors.  Their role is to coach/mentor individuals with particular issues and then step back to let them get on with it!

How the service works

  1. Initial contact.
A confidential telephone call to identify if and how we can support you
  2. Scoping session.
A 1.5 hr meeting 1 to 1 to clarify and agree goals and action plans
  3. Review and action sessions.
4 sessions over 3 months to work towards achieving the goals and action plan
  4. Progress review.
In the last session we review progress to see if the task is complete, if there is a need for further sessions, or if an alternative method of further support can be adopted

A Professional Approach

All of our coaches and mentors have attended training in the use of appropriate models and approaches. They also abide by our code of practice which is that:

  • Your interests take precedence at all times
  • All discussions with you are in confidence unless you specifically wish to share them with a third party
  • The process is only entered into where there is a clear commitment and likely benefit to you
  • All costs and activities will be agreed in advance with you
  • You may hold your meetings off site if you wish
